The aim of the project is to develop a new tool, on a global scale, for the diagnosis of bladder cancer, using a novel approach.
Given that the incidence of this cancer is increasing at a very fast pace, it slowly becomes a real challenge for health care systems of developed countries. The importance of the problem is stressed by the fact that in Poland it has become the fifth in terms of the death rate among males and these indicators are unfortunately getting steadily worse. The situation is even more alarming in Europe. At the same time, its treatment is the most expensive one of all solid tumors and in the near future it will become a serious economic problem for healthcare.
Early detection gives a substantial percentage of patients a possibility to be completely cured. Anticipating the growing negative social consequences, there exists an urgent need to develop a rapid, non-invasive screening test allowing for early detection of bladder cancer.
We will collaborate with Wroclaw Medical University.
